According to the home page of the site, The Players' Tribune is "a new media platform that will present the unfiltered voices of professional athletes, bringing fans closer to the games they love than ever before...The Players' Tribune aims to provide unique insight into the daily sports conversation and to publish first-person stories directly from athletes." The website definitely does provide such a unique perspective into the minds of these athletes so that we, as fans, can start to see players like Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson as not just someone who posted a ridiculous week to beat your fantasy team, but as a human being who actually cares about what's going on in the world, such as domestic violence. Los Angeles Clippers PF Blake Griffin provided us with a first-hand account of what it was like to work for disgraced former Clippers owner, Donald Sterling. NASCAR driver Danica Patrick talks about being a woman in sports while balancing a work-place relationship. Cleveland Cavaliers PF Kevin Love told us all about his eventful summer vacation. The website has quickly become one of my favorites, with Jeter revealing a new writer every week (the next one should be coming out at some point today). It's not often you get an opportunity outside of sound bites on ESPN or quick tweets here or there to delve into the minds of these athletes. It's not often that athletes let us in and allow us to see how they think. We don't normally get to see what's important to them outside of the game. But The Players Tribune does just that. The articles are well worth your time.
In today's social media age, we're closer to the players than ever before. The Players Tribune provides us, as fans, an opportunity to get even closer. If you haven't already, I highly recommend that you check it out.
